oDesk: Online Job Site

oDesk: An Online Job Site

Back in 2009, a friend of mine introduced oDesk to me. At first I thought it was a crazy thing. Since I was a solo-parent and had to do so many things that will make me earn money decently, I tried to register to the site. I was made to upload my resume', take the exam and apply for jobs.

As I applied for jobs, I found that it was a bit hard for me since I was not really good in technology.
Well, one should really have the knowledge of technology since working online makes us use the computer and the net. I tried administrative jobs and also tried applying for a virtual assistant position.
It took me days to have a job. And guess what, it was not any of the jobs I applied. My first job on oDesk was being a Voice Talent. I was chosen to record voice for a drama. I was also asked to do some sound effects of different acts and of different people. Well, I used to love drama over the radio then, so it was not very difficult for me to do. As I was doing it, it was as if I was just playing. My employer contracted me with twenty dollars but when I have submitted my output, he paid me twenty five dollars. I was happy with my first contract and I received a good feedback for that. Then I went on applying for more jobs until I was hired again to voice over an ad for websites. It went on and on until I got a virtual assistance job.

How did I grow as a contractor? It took me patience and perseverance. I hoped that there will be a job for me to earn. I kept praying that there will be an employer who would hire me. And when I had my first contract I was worried that the employer who hired me might just have mistaken me for being good. When I had my next contract, I was still doubtful and thought, "ah, he probably just have read the feedback of my first contract." Well there has been other contracts that came and so many more and I told myself, "oh girl, you are indeed good."
Skills, talent, time. perseverance, effort, dedication, determination, responsibility and courage. These are just some of the values that a contractor should develop when he plans to work online on oDesk. Employers want quality works done and they want it delivered on time. So full efforts should be given to any task assigned to the contractor. Most employers maximize the hour paid to the contractor by asking them revisions on some submitted tasks without recording time. Some employers also are very considerate for little flaws and they will ask some adjustments but time will still be recorded. After the tasks are considered then the contractor can be contented and just wait for feedback.

There are two ways of payment for jobs on oDesk. One is fixed price and the other is hourly.
How time is recorded on hourly basis.
For a fixed price job, a contractor is asked to finish a task at a contracted price of example 20$. the contractor has to deliver the output on or before the time contracted. For the hourly contract, the task is going to be charged according to the the time consumed. The time is measured through the oDesk time meter. Every 5 minutes a screenshot is being made. So whatever it is there on your screen will be visible to the employer for he would review it the moment the week ends. oDesk wants transparency. On oDesk hourly jobs, you are paid for the hours you work.

When you get a chance to be on the computer with a net, do visit the site that will make you earn and that will make you develop your fullest potential in any talent and skills you have. It is the site where employers post jobs and contractors get hired for it. Visit the www.oDesk.com, your passport to better earning online.
